If you’re thinking about starting a low carb diet such as the South Beach diet, you may wonder if all the sacrifice is worth the effort when it comes to weight loss.

There are many low carb diets that will definitely help you lose weight however, as with anything, you have to know what you are doing first for it to be effective, and be careful not to over-do it.  A low carb diet allows for eating lots of proteins which can and will enable you to gain muscle while losing the unhealthy fat.  But if you don’t eat the right types of proteins, you will not lose the fat and you can seriously damage your heart in the process.

Of course, you should consult your doctor before beginning any weight loss program to ensure that you are healthy enough to pursue it and that it will not put you at unnecessary risk.

When your diet permits proteins, making smart choices on what proteins you should have is a great beginning.  If you are allowed an eight ounce serving of protein, eating a half a pound of bacon may not be the right choice of protein.  This is because bacon has a high fat and cholesterol content and is not healthy at all even though it is a protein.  You may want to stick to a serving of boneless, skinless chicken breast that would be a more healthy and a low cholesterol alternative.

Finally, you should always add exercise to any low carb weight loss diet in order to build muscle mass and lose fat.  This will also help to boost your metabolism which will also help you to lose weight.  These are the two main components to successful weight loss for any person who wants to be healthier.

You only need to exercise a couple of days a week for at least a half an hour.  You can also simply start walking to the store or taking the steps at work instead of the elevator to add more exercise to your daily weight loss regime.
